Raphael Roumain: South Dade Academy

April 7, 2026

From real estate success to soccer academy director

Raphael Roumain was already building a successful career in South Florida real estate when he discovered We Make Footballers. A University of Florida graduate with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, he had the perfect foundation for running a community-based sports program — he just hadn't found the right vehicle yet.

When Raphael came across the WMF franchise opportunity, the pieces came together. Here was a proven system with a world-class coaching methodology, a recognized brand, and full head office support — everything he needed to launch something meaningful in his own backyard. What started as a part-time venture quickly became a full-time occupation, with Raphael now focused on establishing multiple territories across South Dade.

Today, the academy operates out of Homestead Air Reserve Park, running weekly sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays for children aged 4–12. Raphael's tri-lingual skills — English, French, and Creole — give him a unique ability to connect with the diverse communities across Homestead and Florida City, and his reputation for work ethic and charisma has made him a natural community builder.

Personal motivation

Raphael's degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism gave him a formal background in community programming. Combining that with his business acumen from real estate, he saw the WMF franchise as the opportunity to build something with real community impact — not just another coaching business.

Turning point

What convinced Raphael was the support. From the pre-launch marketing campaign to the hands-on training with WMF's team, he could see this wasn't a franchise that left you on your own. The business blueprint was clear and ready to be applied.

Building community

South Dade has traditionally been underserved by premium soccer academies. Raphael is changing that — providing accessible, high-quality coaching in Homestead and Florida City, with low-cost competitive matches on the roadmap to give local children a pathway they haven't had before.

From local passion to professional coaching impact

Raphael and his team deliver structured weekly training sessions focused on the WMF methodology — 500+ ball touches per hour, 1v1 and 2v2 scenarios, and decision-making drills designed to develop players technically rather than just tactically. Every session follows the same curriculum used across the global WMF network.

The academy is already expanding beyond weekly training. Soccer development camps run during school holidays with themed daily sessions, and low-cost competitive matches are being introduced to give players real game experience without the high fees of traditional travel leagues. Raphael's goal is to build the complete WMF ecosystem in South Dade — Foundation League, club teams, and scouting pathways.

Measuring success beyond the numbers

Raphael at WMF South Dade is proving that high-quality soccer coaching belongs in every community — not just the affluent ones.

  • 67+ active players — Students enrolled
  • 3 sessions per week — Tuesdays and Saturdays
  • 3 languages — English, French, and Creole
  • $120 entry price — Per 6-session block

How Raphael built his soccer coaching franchise

Background

Raphael graduates from the University of Florida with a degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism and builds a successful career in South Florida real estate. His professional experience gives him the business skills and community networks that will later prove invaluable for running a franchise.

Discovery and onboarding

Raphael discovers the WMF franchise opportunity and goes through the onboarding process. He completes in-person training covering coaching methodology, child protection, and business operations. The quality of the pre-launch support and marketing materials confirms his decision — this is a franchise that actively helps its owners succeed.

Launch

WMF South Dade launches at Homestead Air Reserve Park with weekly sessions on Tuesdays and Saturdays. What started as a part-time venture alongside his real estate career quickly becomes a full-time focus, with Raphael setting his sights on multiple territories.

Growth and expansion

The academy introduces holiday soccer camps and begins rolling out low-cost competitive matches for players to apply their training in real game environments. Raphael is building toward the full WMF product ecosystem in South Dade — Foundation League, club teams, and pathways into professional academies.

A day in the life of a soccer coach

Running a We Make Footballers franchise means combining business ownership with time on the field. Here's what a typical Saturday looks like for Raphael.

Business owner in the morning

Raphael starts the day reviewing bookings and trial enquiries in the Parent Area, checking session capacity, and following up with families. His real estate background means the business side comes naturally — managing finances, planning growth, and building local partnerships. He'll spend time connecting with schools and community organizations across Homestead and Florida City, often switching between English, French, and Creole depending on who he's speaking with.

Coach and community leader at the field

By 9:30 AM, Raphael is at Homestead Air Reserve Park welcoming the first group. The 4–7 age group trains from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, followed by the 8–12s from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Sessions follow the WMF syllabus — high-repetition technical drills, 1v1s, and small-sided games with a low coach-to-child ratio ensuring every player gets individual attention. After the sessions, Raphael chats with parents, reviews player progress with his team, and plans for the week ahead.

"From the very beginning, a high level of support has been provided for daily operations and marketing. The business blueprint is clear and ready to be applied. The support received before launch makes it clear that a franchisee is not starting alone — WMF actively helps its franchisees to succeed. For me, what started as a part-time venture quickly became a full-time occupation with the goal of establishing multiple territories." — Raphael Roumain, Academy Director, We Make Footballers South Dade
